Review of Steins;Gate 0
Reminder: Watch Steins;Gate, then episode 23b, then start Steins;Gate 0. When I started 0, I was afraid it wasn't going to keep up the expectations. The original is probably the best anime ever and considered to be in the top 3 for several people... thankfully, it is as enjoyable as the original. Story: 9. Steins; Gate 0 takes place in an alternative timeline, called "beta", the one where Mayuri lives and Kurisu dies. So instead of approaching the Steins;Gate from "alpha" like the original did, the characters try to get there from the other path, chosen by Okabe in 23b. This is all perfect and genius, butsome parts are poorly explained or doesn't make 100% sense, and that's why it gets a 9.
Art: 9.Excellent. The kind of animation used suits perfectly this anime. It's nothing stunning tho'. I wouldn't ask for more, but it could have done more.
Sound: 8. You won't remember this anime for its music or sound effects, but there are some particular moments where the music is used brillantly.
Character development: 10. You will discover a lot about almost every character, you will suffer with them, get happy with them and the ones with less emotional involvement, they already shone in Steins;Gate and now are still doing what they have to. Some characters will show an unexpected and very welcome side while others will express their emotions in ways you'd never imagine. The new characters are key to the plot and their personality is as good as the main original cast.
Overall: 9. It's an extremely enjoyable sequel, with no bad dialogues and with tons of revelations, sadly, some of the most important ones are very predictable or are waaay too convenient, but they are still very pleasing to watch. It abuses some of the elements that were surprising in Steins;Gate and it's less original to its predecessor but those things don't ruin much the experience and once again, they show why this is the best series about time travel in any media.
