A-typical plot, they hit all the common notes; post apocalyptical, where a lot of ppl forgot what happened 20 years ago... :/ It's an amalgamation of multiple series designs with some common tropes. *Design amalgamations*: Guaran Lagan; Chobits; most mecha genre, and the duel partner aspect you find in some mecha (e.g.: Darling in the Franxx). Tropes (mild): "Collector of the Strange"; common heroes journey type story (which means it's better than most of current day Hollywood already). It also seems to have 5 or 6 'sidekick' tropes wrapped into one. Also, childhood friend with a crush on the MC. Story dragged out a bit afterthe 8th eps, some character growth happened which is better than most 12eps anime. I liked it better than DITF.

But of course we have a video game coming out before the second cour? Go Bandai... :/ …

Overall, I liked it. I'll give it a just 'good', rating. It's hard to be 'wowed' by the mecha genre for me anymore.
