Review of Shadows House
This is a review of seasons 1 and 2 I'm sure a lot of people will be immediately drawn into the aesthetic of this show, myself included. I had a lot of ideas flowing through my head of what I was hoping this show would be like, which perhaps is what led to me feeling a little let down in the end. It's ok. But it doesn't lean as far into the macabre as I would've liked. And the interesting visuals kinda end with the shadow characters. Everything else is just sorta standard. I know this story is still ongoing, so perhaps its a bit toosoon for me to judge the parts that didn't make sense to me. But it was a recurring issue throughout both seasons, especially throughout season 2, where it would bring up one storyline or one really big revelation involving a specific character and then just completely abandon it to focus on something else. And apparently the anime got an anime-only ending since it wound up catching up too close to the manga. So now I REALLY don't know if any of the loose ends in the first 2 seasons will get resolved in a future season. Missed potential felt like the theme of this series. There were parts I was enjoying, but often found myself getting annoyed by various things such as the characters always referring to themselves in the third person, which is ESPECIALLY confusing when every single character is paired up with another character who looks just like them and has a very similar name to their partner. As well as Season 2 seemingly ignoring how season 1 ended, which made the whole thing seem pointless. I was also let down by season 1's opening. I thought that would've been a perfect opportunity to lean into the creepy/spooky vibes of the show, but it was just sorta... whatever. It didn't even have a vocalist, which was extra odd. Not that all anime openings need lyrical OP's and ED's, but it just felt like this one was meant to have one. I don't know... It was whatever. Wish I liked it more.
Season 1: 6/10
Season 2: 4/10
Overall: 5/10
