Trigun is an anime that has always had a special place in my heart since the day I watched it almost a decade ago. Vash for me is the most inspirational character and has shaped my personality and the pacifist in it a lot. Trigun is an anime from 1999, this aired at around the same time cowboy bebop was airing and it is kind of similar in terms of quality but the only thing I think it falls behind is the animation. Plot/characters: Trigun has good character building especially in the main character Vash. His whole plot revolves around pacifism and how to solve conflict withit. The characters also have comedic traits to them too, as comedy is a good chunk of the dialogue, but during the first half you can feel there are hidden deeper personality traits within the characters that might be explored in future episodes and that’s exactly what happens. The second half starts off dropping comedy for more emotional dialogue and scenes of them having breakdowns. Vash’s breakdown in the second last episode is still one of the most haunting cries I’ve heard in anime.
The episodic side characters and villains might be forgettable as they are a bit one dimensional but their whole purpose was to develop the main characters.

Animation:
Animation isn’t top notch. I know this is the late 90’s but Cowboy bebop was dropping amazing animation each episode. The character movements can be a bit jerky, cartoony and there’s too little movement at times, but the character designs adapted from the manga are top notch.

Sound/music:
Trigun’s music is often mentioned. It is very wild west inspired music with acoustic blues rock, fiddles guitars and harmonicas. The music fits very well with the show’s cowboy/wild west themes. The sound design is okay, I guess nothing special when compared with other things from the era.

Final verdict:
This is a great show, if only the animation was also good it would have sat right there with Cowboy bebop in terms of fame. Everything else is there, great characters, great soundtrack, great design and themes. I highly recommend you watch this anime as the character interactions and dialogue still feel very modern, funny and you’ll be attached to the characters in no time.
