Kishitan wa Jouheki no Naka ni Hana Hiraku, or "The Knight Blooms Behind Castle Walls," is a short and fun story following the life and duties of a page living in a castle. The manga is set in a fictional country based off of an amalgamation of Western Europe roughly during the late Middle Ages. We follow our lead Rosa, a young lady disguising herself as a boy, as she learns the knightly trade as a page to the castle knights. "The Knight Blooms" takes great joy in sharing the details of life during this time, with wonderful illustrations of the buildings and equipmenttaking center stage. The manga does skirt around some of the darker and bleaker elements of life during that time, making it suitable for younger readers as well.

At only three volumes long, it is a short read. With its focus on teaching about the time period, sometimes it does feel like character development and plot are secondary concerns. Nonetheless, it is an easy recommend for anyone in the mood for a lighter read.
