NTR book. Let's go. Note this is a review of the first volume of the light novel since that's what's listed on MAL, and I read it in Japanese. I will update this review when the second volume comes out on June 1st (https://sneakerbunko.jp/series/ntr/). The web novel has barely been updated in the past year so that might be the end of the series, I don't know. This LN really doesn't have anything to do with the NTR porn genre, it has no explicit scenes and basically no fanservice or ecchi. It's just a normal rom-com revenge story so don't get your hopes up. They're pretty muchjust trying to increase exposure by using a provocative title.
The main character, Isshiki, gets cheated on by his girlfriend, Karen (lol funni name), with his senpai, Kamokura, and him and the senpai's girlfriend, Touko, plot to get revenge on the two cheaters.

Pros:
- Characters are interesting and likable. They each fulfill their roles in the story well. I didn't feel their were any wasted characters. Pretty much all named characters are important to the story. The protagonist actually has a male friend he can confide in (pet peeve with a lot of otaku contents). The main heroine is good and while seems overly perfect at first, gets development and shows flaws throughout the novel.
- Takes place in college instead of high school (insane).
- No shitty harem or any of that cringe. No ecchi. Just a normal story. If you want porn go watch porn.
- There's no otaku stuff. The main character isn't an incel or a virgin. It is so much to ask that an LN or manga not have some pathetic demasculated loser as the protagonist???
- The villains (cheaters) are pretty hatable and I really wanted to see them taken down. They aren't cheating for no reason, the reader learns and understands their motivations and what kind of people they are without empathizing to much. Even though I understood why they were doing what they were, I still couldn't wait to see them destroyed.
- The revenge is really satisfying. The build up is totally worth it.
- I was fully engaged and wanted to keep reading. I was invested in the characters and the main duo. Chapters are kept at a good length so you often feel like you want to read more.

Cons:
- The art. It's just not that great.
- The MC is just okay. He's not an otaku, but he's not a particularly outstanding or amazing character etiher. He's overly ignorant about a lot of things, and his conversations with Touko sometimes feel like he's needs be explained literally everything.
- THE ENDING. This is the main reason I didn't give it a higher score. I really enjoyed 95% of this, to the point I would have given it a 8 or 9. But the ending was such a troll gotcha moment I don't even know what to say. The change in tone was very sudden, and a "comedic" reveal cheapens a lot of the events that led up to that point in my opinion. It's okay that the author didn't want the main duo to bang... but he could have gone about in a much better way with some stronger romantic progression.

Overall, I enjoyed it a lot until the less than stellar ending, which lowers it a point or 2. It's still worth reading and I'm interested to see where volume 2 goes, and if it redeems the ending.
