Saneka no Yomeiri by Wataru Momose has a quirky unique premise, but doesn't rely on the premise as a crutch. It tells the story of Tatsuhiko, the grandson of Michihisa tasked with cleaning up his grandfather's affairs after his passing, and Saneka, a deity tasked with protecting Michihisa's home. This work is really carried on the backs of the two protagonists: Tatsuhiko and Saneka, who are (unwillingly?) married. Thus begins their cohabitation, as Tatsuhiko learns more about his grandfather's life through cleaning up his grandfather's home and Saneka's memories. Perhaps the strongest aspect of this work is the character design. Momose conveys his love forhis characters through the intricate and creative designs of the deities, especially in their animal forms. While Saneka definitely embodies this the best with her cute tanuki form and intricate outfit when first in her human form, other deities such as Nara and Hiragi are treated with careful and detailed character designs.

The story does get a little lost near the end though as the conflicts resolve, with some characters being introduced into the story too quickly without the same kind of background as characters from earlier in the story. This makes the story feel a bit rushed, and it's more difficult to connect with the side characters critical to conflict resolution. The first half of the work feels more like a slow, meandering slice-of-life, but the latter half of the work ratchets up the stakes and accelerates the plot, making the story pacing overall feel imbalanced.

Also, it's really easy to forget Tatsuhiko's name, since after the first page his name doesn't really appear much.

Overall, Saneka no Yomeiri is an enjoyable read with strong protagonist design.
