Review of ReLIFE
ReLIFE is a must-watch series as it takes "school anime" to a different approach. It is very interesting how the show's concept showcases adults' reality compared to youthful ones. The MC is a 27-year-old NEET who struggles to find a proper job because he left his previous one in just three months. A stranger appeared to him and offers a full-year expense of his needs and promises to find him a job, if only he would agree to be an experimental subject of ReLIFE. He needs to take a pill that will turn his external appearance younger for about 10 years, and should go backfrom being a high school student for a year.
The MC takes on an unexpected journey as he brings his adulthood to a youthful dilemma. A place where various young emotions take place, that is very different from a grown-up views of reality. The show is very entertaining to watch from beginning to end. Many challenges were introduced that were pretty relatable from our high school lives. Intelligence, athleticism, friendships, and lots of feelings to be hidden or conveyed. But those things mentioned were supposed to be expected when you're going to watch "school anime". What makes this show unique is the "maturity" of an adult. The MC may be a grown-up, but when he was "re-linked" with his youthful days, he started to face his current problems and grew as a person as well. The society is very unfair and corrupt, that's what he sees from his previous job. But along the way, he may be able to realize that those so-called "grown-ups" were the ones who were acting childish.
There are two things that I'd love to highlight in this show:
First, it's not the funniest show out there, but this would certainly put you in a positive mood. No forced jokes and no cliches. It naturally flows within the conversations and interactions. But take note that there is also drama, which is expected from a "slice of life" genre.
Second, the background music is great. It would somehow lead you to conclusions or wrong assumptions. The piano sound plays along with the situation. It goes slow, it intensifies, and it also stops to give off an awkward environment. They would also add other instrumentals that would fit in the situation. It is fun to watch when the music plays along. The ending songs of the anime also change from time to time, which also tries to fit the ending scenarios.
There's really no big issues in this anime. The ones that I could think of is just from my personal taste. I do think that everything is on the surface. It means that all the information of the story is revealed or spoon-fed. By that, you just need to go along and see what happens next, nothing to explore or no deep meaning. Well, there's a twist in the ending and it actually gave off an impact. However, I was already expecting that to happen especially when the previous episodes gave off a lot of hints. But it still ended the way I wanted it to be, so that's a plus for me.
With that said, I would really recommend this anime to everyone who loves drama, slice of life, and school anime. This would never be a waste of your time so be sure to check it out when you have nothing else to watch. Ja matane!
