This review is more about the whole series rather than the first season. I don't think SAO is about the plot. I don't think it's about the game itself or Kirito's progression. I don't know how people compare SAO with Solo Leveling. I think people after watching the first episode wanted the show to be about how the people stuck in it cleared the game and how Kirito slowly became a powerful MC and stuff. I don't even think the show is necessarily about Kirito. It is clearly about relationships. In every arc Kirito is in a way being used as a tool to introduceus to new characters. The first arc is clearly Asuna's story arc. The time skips mostly skip to parts where Kirito and Asuna's relationship develops. The second arc is clearly focused on Leafa and Kirito's relationship rather than the not so good "Save the princess" arc. It tackles the situation where your love is not shared by the one you love. (Well, it is shared but in a different way than you are hoping for.) Everyone is just so focused on the incest part. Trying to tackle incest as well was definitely not the right choice in this instance. The third arc is obviously about Sinon and how she faces her past and becomes a much stronger person in progress. The fourth arc mainly focuses on Asuna and Yuukki. The fifth arc focuses on Eugeo and Kirito's friendship. Kirito is mainly used to introduce new characters every arc. It definitely is not a perfect anime but I am shocked that no one is even talking about what is good about SAO. I don't think "SHIT WORLDBUILDING!" "SHIT MC!" "HAREM SO BAD!" "WHY SO POWERFUL WHY HE GET SO MANY GIRLS" is a good argumant.
