Review of Gangsta.
Too bad the ending of Gangsta. is a very underwhelming considering the main fact that Manglobe, an anime developer who is known for developing Ergo Proxy, Samurai Champloo and The God Only Knows Series, lead to bankruptcy. But, the question is... Who are the ones that needed to blame? Because the only guys they need to blame are themselves(Manglobe), because they're the ones who made their company suffer. And this anime is the last anime that lead to it's final nail to it's coffin. And because of their carelessness, here it is... The half-ass finished version of this anime came from one of the bestanime corporations out there... Manglobe (RIP)
Anyways, let's review Manglobe's final nail in the coffin, Gangsta... And what am I going to say this? Well, this anime is really indeed... DISAPPOINTING. I can indeed follow how the flow of this anime is going, but thanks to so many underwhelming plot from the 2nd Episode to the last, I don't think this is recommendable to watch this anime.
Gangsta focuses more on about the crimes that is doing at Ergastulum, a small town full of mafias, drugs, hoodlums, prostitutes and dirty cops. Ergastulum is a pretty messed up city that it looks like the cops has no control in it whatsoever including the government.
The protagonists named as Worrick Arcangelo and Nicolas Brown are working as the "Handymens" (It's like Yorozuya Gin-Chan where they accept request from someone) who do their dirty jobs not just for the police but also the mobsters and mafias as well. For short, Handymens are just staying behind the spotlight and only acts as a assistants for their works. They also met a then-prostitute named Alex Benedetto who is now a assistant when it comes to oncoming calls.
The Plot is fine when it comes to the first episode but as we went thru each of it's episodes, it's a very complicated one actually. Also, there are so many unanswered conclusion here. Regarding what happens to the family of Alex Benedetto, the life of Worrick Arcangelo, will Nicolas will be able to make it, etc., I really do wanted to know more on about this, but it's sad to say that maybe we will never see the light of day for this series. But as for the backstory of the two main protagonist, it's okay for me because it tells about how these two main protagonist meet each other and how do they start their own business. The only thing that really criticizes the most is the freaking final episode, it's a cliffhanger. So, we see the final moments of Worrick jumping from the window, then talks about the twilights and that was it... Worrick lying on the ground, injured and slowing dying while raining... And I was like... really? That's the jizz of it? The fuck happened to the whole plot then, the explosions, the war between each mafia family, etc.. It's freaking disappointing though... and I really hate that...
The Art, it kinda looks like I'm watching a crime-drama from the 70s or older. The structures of the buildings and everything that surrounds it looks like it's came somewhere in North America or Europe. So, it's very stylish though.
The character development is not that good though, there are so many characters here but only plenty of it has that kind of it. Also, the characters here are done good enough. But, thanks to it's lack of next episodes due to the bankruptcy, I should say it's pretty damn raw to see this anime.
I'm very disappointed on how they deliver this anime. It's so sad that one of the most underrated yet talented anime corporation went down it's core because of it's overwhelming debts over the past years. I'm really looking forward to this anime because, hell, Manglobe is great when it come to delivering the anime amongst fans. I'm really sad that after all these times of making this anime, this is the only ending they have. It's not very well executed, and I really can't believe how awful it is to end the legacy of Manglobe.
But, who cares though, there are tons of Manglobe anime that for you to watch on to. So, if you're planning to watch this anime, I consider for you to watch Ergo Proxy, it's a damn-fine material. If you're not on about mechas clashing like Transformers or Gundam Series, then this is a right anime for you. If you like mysteries like Death Note, then yeah... Ergo Proxy!
But not this... I really don't want you to watch this anime, It's raw, it's unfinished, and most of all, NOT GOOD...
RIP Manglobe, and RIP Gangsta...
