Review of Terra Formars
Note: I'd like to begin by saying that I have no experience with the manga and I've only watched the uncensored version. First, the bad. This show is far from perfect. At times the pacing is breakneck and at others it slows to a crawl. Most of the cast is completely expendable and as a result one might have a hard time growing to care about a character before they're ripped in half by a giant and extremely muscular cockroach. The monster design is silly and had a tendency to make break out in laughter during the early episodes. Even the things that many othershere praise, i.e. the gore and violence, tended to carry very little weight.
However, despite its many faults, Terra Formars is tense. The major part of the story takes place over the course of one horrific night, where the crew of BUGS 2 find themselves completely outmatched in a strange and foreign land. It's not a story about a team of underdogs overcoming the challenges before them, it's a brutal and desperate tale of of survival. And though the show is littered with meaningless character death, the few impactful deaths pack a punch and manage to keep you on your toes.
Overall, though the show has many shortcomings, its strengths are enough to carry it through its run. It's a decent show that's sure to entertain fans of horror and sci-fi alike.
