Kokoro Connect is much more than a 'slice of life' with a speck of 'supernatural'. More than that, it is a philosophical exploration of identity and the self, delving deeply into the aspects of what defines a person, a personality, an emotion, and ultimately, the true self. This exploration is undertaken amidst the background of the bonds of friendship and passion, the bittersweet pleasure and pain of love, the maniacal follies of despair and sadness, and the echoing nostalgia and melancholy of the past. Of particular strength to the the story is the implicit exploration of the concepts of "hon'ne" (本音) and "tatemae" (建前): the unspokenworld of true feelings and desires (hon'ne) and the often contrasting façade of public behavior and opinions (tatemae). The depth to which these concepts of Japanese nature are investigated makes the story a gem for those seeking a philosophical journey inward into the most primordial and fundamental attributes of the self, and the impact of external perception on who we seem to be to others in contrast to who we believe to be ourselves.

Along the way, a roller-coaster of emotions will swing the viewer through joy and sorrow, assuring that one's heart will forever resonate with the implications presented in the plot. Not a show for those who cannot see past the superficial aspects of a story. Proceed into a journey that will make you inquire the very core of your existence...
