Review of Durarara!!
enjoyment: 5/10 At first it was dotted with barely any interesting scenes, which were enough to make you want to get through to the next episode in hopes t would get better. It only started to get interesting about halfway, had I not gone through that point I would've given this series a 3/10. It gets good as the plot develops, but it takes a REALLY long time, which really bored me out. I thought I was gonna die from boredom in the first 15 or so episodes. originality: 8/10 Very original. At first it seems pretty basic, but as new characters get introduced the plot getsdeeper and deeper, and rather than a cliched story it becomes a very interwoven plot. Also the plot twists are unpredictable, usually I can predict what would happen, but this series was just full of surprises.
if it lives up to its genre: 6/10
Action in the first half? Who is that? The plot was slow and unmoving, the mystery not really there, and the supernatural was a just some person in a bike with no head. But then again it gets better in the second half as the plot gets deeper.
art/sound fits the picture: 7/10
Sound was literally the same as Baccano! It wasn't really any different, and the art was the same as well. It fits the supernatural-mystery so I have no problems but I wish they could've done a little more with the soundtrack, like, something more original pleaseeee.
characters: 8/10
The characters are probably the only reason I kept watching this series. Kida, Shizu, and Izaya are outstanding. Especially Izaya, an antagonist that is just perfect in his own respect. It's a pretty basic "people are pawns" antagonist, but he just knows how to work it. Kida is hilarious absolutely hilarious but he has his secrets– and Shizu just likes to throw vending machines around. He's just amazing.
OVERALL: 6/10
I know it's kinda weird to say this, but this series is a bit like Fruits Basket. (Not in the way that it's romance and two guys fight over a girl and whatnot, though.) Fruits Basket just gets better as the story goes on.
