Review of Anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day
I was recommneded this by one of my better friends, but it was someone who usually recommended bad shows. I put it to the side for a while but the other night I finally got around to watching it and I have to admit, I'm pleasantly surprised. This anime is really excellent with one exception: the main character. Jinta is far from an atypical protagonist, but compared to how unique the rest of cast is it really hurts that this is the one that the writers chose to focus on. I would've much preferred seeing more of Chiriko, who is heavily shafted in favor ofpretty much every other character, leaving her a mysterious and intriguing character.
Aside from that one slip up, the anime is solid through and through. I specifically enjoyed how the ending was handled, as it was great resolution to what the story had been building up to, rewarding each of the characters with a happiness greater than cotton candy. I teared up as well, which is not something that is common for me when it comes to anime (especially one so short!)
I would definitely recommend Anohana, but only if you're in for a tear jerker.
