Review of School Days
THIS IS MY FIRST REVIEW SO BEAR WITH ME The Harem Genre is one that gets a lot of flak for having shows that are "all the same." They all have one dimensional characters and a cliché story etc. But then School Days comes along and blows that stereotype out of the park. For my first ever review on MAL, I thought I'd pick an anime that affected me psychologically like no other did. As being one of the most hated anime in recent memory, and for good reason, let's jump right into this review shall we? (If you're expecting me to completely sh** on thisshow you're gonna have a bad time)
Story: 10/10
The story is easily the best part of this entire series. School Days is known as the deconstruction of the harem genre. (I use that term lightly) School Days is a psychological thriller while still being a harem. The story receives a high rating because I have yet to see an anime go in the direction this one goes in. The story is so enthralling and brilliantly written that it'll be hard to stop watching this anime. (I watched it all in one go) HOWEVER, a lot and I mean A LOT of people despise the story for School Days, and for good reason. It's not for everyone. I myself at points was punching a wall as I was watching this. If your able to look past a lot of the bad things the story had to offer, this will be a very enjoyable experience.
Characters: 2/10
Now, this is the huge downfall for this anime. Basically every character in this show I would like to personally punch in the face. The main character of Makoto Itou is one of the most hated characters in all of anime. There was only one character that I liked in the whole show: Kotonoha Katsura. You can't help but feel bad for her. It's really tough to watch in that area, but don't let this stop you from watching it.
Art: 8/10
The art is surprisingly good. If anything you can at least praise Studio TNK for their nice character designs.
Sound: 6/10
Sound is nothing special. There is ONE SONG in this however that i will never forget. If you've seen the anime you know what song I'm talking about. I kind of despise the opening theme for this anime. The artwork is all fine and dandy but the song is...well whenever I hear the song I imagine that if you were on an elevator going down to hell...this would be the elevator music...
Enjoyment: 7/10
As much as I want to give School Days a 9 or 10 for enjoyment I can't. Because looking back on this show is one thing, but while watching it I have to say that I despised almost everything about this. Even though I hated it while watching it, I did still complete it in a day. The story while being difficult to watch is really enthralling and captivating if you can look past some things which I did.
Overall: 6/10

FINAL THOUGHTS:
School Days is an anime that I believe everyone who enjoys romance or harem anime needs to watch before they die, as it is like no other. It is one of the most hated anime of all time so you won't hear many people giving it praise. While there are many things to hate they're are also many things to like about this, and I hope you can enjoy it as much as, if not more than I have. If you want similar anime I would recommend Myself; Yourself, Kimi ga Nozomu Eien, and ef: A Tale of Memories.
