Review of Is This a Zombie? of the Dead
"And the world shudders as two perverts put their heads together" -- Misc Brown Haired Girl Ep 04 Sure seems that after the first season the perverts on the team put their heads together and came up with comedy. Between improving the deliver, taking out the vitriol in the jokes , adding in some really funny characters, and making much better use of supporting characters, the series has improved to the point where it's making me smile. Still no belly laughs or much more than a chuckle but that sure beats first season. "There's something different about you lately" ---Kanami Mihara Characters are where the second season gained themost. Adding in Chris as the drunken magical girl, Gave them a character that was just pure comedy gold. The only thing they did wrong with her is there just wasn't enough of her. Yuki really begins to take on the part of young girl with the hopeless crush and plays clueless for all it's worth. Saravati is now obsessed with Ayuma and regularly stalking him. Even the chainsaw gets some good lines.
"Well there's another thing I wanted to talk to you about"
----Yuki
That's the comedy. They are finally starting to get the comedy right. The gore is mostly gone, and the beatdowns of Ayumu are no longer cringewiorthy. Most of the humiliation directed at him is modulated so it's no longer in the back away slowly while keeping your eyes fixed on the crazy person range. Ayuma is at last acting as a proper straight man , not a pathetic punching bag. Finally they managed to figure out the way to make people laugh at a crossdresser was to really play up the awkwardness and incongruity.
"The more things change, the more they stay the same"
---Unknown.
Unfortunately the second season couldn't shed all the sins of the first season. Zombie is still failing to keep it funny. It's still falling by going serious at the wrong points
It's shame the second season didn't just do more of what they got right this time around. At least this time around the anime will improve your mood.
