Review of Bakemonogatari
I loved the surreal art style, the world building, and the very clever use of language, when it was used for more than just puns or tongue twisters. There's a lot of nuance that you won't likely catch the first time, especially if your Japanese is less than stellar, as most of the plot devices and much of the dialogue is focused around dual meanings due to: - Different words with the same or similar pronunciation - Different readings of the same kanji - Re-arranging kanji radicals to form new meaning Beyond that however, it's yet another high-school student harem anime with embarrassing H-scenes forced in at every turn. For every minute spent developing interesting plot devices expect another minute of panty shots or groping coupled with generic "every girl is in love with me but I'm too stupid to see it" angst. Disappointing.
