Review of Parasyte: The Maxim
I am so glad I decided to watch it after I got the recommendation. It sounds so weird and even kind of stupid, but it's actually pretty amazing! The story is great! Parasites take over some human bodies but one of them fails and therefore has to coexist with an average human boy. The idea of a whole species that has no emotions and acts solely out of self-interest is very interesting. They seem very strange to us because of that, but how could we judge them? They don't comprehend our actions either. I also like that the parasites aren't all the same and not evenall those that took over the brains have the same opinion on how to handle certain situations. The story touches on some really interesting topics that we should ask ourselves as humans as well. There are a few things that were a bit illogical, but I can easily forgive that.
The character development is brilliant! It is really interesting to see the changes Shinichi (and Migi) go through. They become a great team and I really like them both, even though Migi can be very cold. I think Tamiya Ryoko is a very interesting character as well. Of course not a very likeable one, but I really enjoyed her character.
In general a very sad and suspenseful anime full of action mixed with deep questions about the human psyche and existence. The ending fit the whole story perfectly and satisfied me.
