Natsume’s Book of Friends: On a Certain Snowy Day · review

7 /10

This is another neat little story from the Natsume Yuujinchou franchise. The whole series is very episodic, with not many status quo changes per season, so it's not too important the order you watch this episode in relation to the rest of season 4. It can fit in anywhere, really. The youkai of the week this time is a Yuki-onna or snow woman, another common Japanese folktale. The story tackles themes of nostalgia for lost things. The snow woman, in the form of a snow sculpture, is searching desperately for something it's lost. Natsume of course gets involved helping her. There's a pretty obvious parallel tothe youkai's story in some old items that Touka finds in storage. In classic Natsume fashion everything gets a happy yet strangely melancholy ending.

It's a nice story but on it's own this special doesn't carry much weight, so I'll give it a nice 7/10.
