Review of Amnesia
I haven't liked a shojo anime in a very long time and decided that I should try i out again. I'm very pleased that I watched Amnesia, and researched it before deciding to drop it or not. If you didn't know, this anime is based off of a dating sim video game for the PSP. With that in mind, I felt they did a great job with transitions that are like he video game genre. I felt a times, I was actually playing the game. These ratings are based on the fact that I'm getting back into shojo, as well as how hard it isto go from video game to anime.
Story: 8/10
The concept is clear in the beginning. Introduction to Heroine and how she doesn't remember anything, but as the episodes keeps going, the plot gets muddy and frustrating. I can tell you that I have five theories on why this was happening to her and it kept me watching. Going out of the anime category, I'm a giant fan of Doctor Who and Supernatural, so Amnesia's plot line was beautiful in it's own little way. There were obvious themes that are presented in shojo anime that I've seen hundreds of times, but the complete idea of why all of the cheesey romance is worth it all. The last episode was a bit disappointing and thought it would be interesting if there was an episode for each relationship with a male character. I give it a 8 simply because I didn't feel like it was "finished".
Art: 10/10
The only problem I had that some of the choices of how long the male characters were projected. I tend to like this kind of artistic style with the long arms and legs but I thought a few scenes were a bit too much. It honestly didn't hurt since I give it a 10. I loved the clothing and hair, as well as the backgrounds. I kept looking at how beautiful the pupils were as well.
Sound: 9/10
The opening song hooked me instantly on episode one. I wasn't expecting to watch more than an episode or two, since the summary of it seemed a bit cheesey. But when the hook started, I was sold. I didn't think of the anime as a shojo frilly anime anymore but as a hardcore rip-your-heart-out tale. The voices are exactly like the ones in the video game, or wikipedia has failed me. Having voice actors for the video game also do the anime is a hard thing to do and I love knowing if I want the game, the voices will all be the same.
Character: 9/10
I decided to give this a 9 because I was waiting for the main character to develop more at the very end. I love how kind she is, even with Toma, although I frown upon her reasoning. The main character is -yes- bland but most dating game heroines are, also, she lost her memories. Memories are the reason why we react to things like we do, and giving us a bland heroine is acceptable, especially in this plot. The males all had obvious tropes. The childhood best friend, the rebel type, the socially inept, and the ladies man. I felt the male characters grew a bit more as "their" episode ended, which only kept me afraid of going to the next one. At the end, I didn't know which one I would "want" our Heroine to stay with and if they included an episode for each relationship/pairing, it would have been fantastic.
Enjoyment: 10/10
I rated this a 10 because it's a breath of fresh air. I don't tend to like anime with cliche tropes but the way this anime built up the ending is worth it. I enjoyed every moment in this anime, up to the very end.
Overall: 9/10
Overall, I rate Amnesia a 9 for it's obvious trope characters with an interesting plot. I recommend this anime to anyone who likes a bit of timey wimey without an extreme complicated 100+ episode count. It's a fun anime with a whole bunch of feels.
