Review of The Seven Deadly Sins: Revival of the Commandments
It had been a couple years since I'd seen the first season (which I very much liked) and I finally got around to watching this. Lets get the good out of the way: - The art & sound are great. - The *majority* of characters continue to be fun, enjoyable and interesting to watch (with nice relationships between them which change & progress throughout the season). - The fights are definitely the highlight, nicely animated and keep things changing - if fights are all you look for in a show you'll like this one. Now the bad: - The writing is atrocious. Like I don't expect muchfrom anime, but this is BAD. Just blatant exposition, repeating of the same line over & over, and horrible last minute story elements which have clearly just been thrown in to add more things for the characters to do.
- The story is nonsensical. This whole season feels like an after-thought. The first season was tied up so nicely but here they UNDO so much of it in order to create more story. There is so much of "Oh remember that thing from last season? Well it was actually THIS the entire time"
- I hated Elisibeth last season and by god she's worse in this one. Just so stupid & needy and really drags down the otherwise perfect ensemble.
Look, if you love the characters and the fights, give it a watch but DON'T be expecting a good story.
It's the type of show I don't totally regret watching, but I definitely won't be watching the next season.
Shame.
