Review of Pop Team Epic
There’s something to be said about being so dumb that you’re actually brilliant. Poputepipikku walks that line like few others. The skits in each episode range from deliberately dumb to surprisingly artsy. In fact, I don’t know if I’ve ever seen another series utilize as many different styles as Poputepipikku. Some of these segments appear to parody more popular shows/styles while others are completely original. All of them, though, are pretty cool. The music is far from the focus of the series, but it still plays an active role in keeping the audience engaged. In short, watching Poputepipikku is like watching a snake slowly devour a mousein your 5th grade science class. You may find yourself wondering "What is the point of watching any of this?” That’s a good question, but ultimately not important. At the end of the day, you’ll admit that despite the overall bizarreness of the situation, it was kind of cool to see that stereotypical mouse saturated with anime tropes, then swallowed whole by the snake.
