Wonder Egg Priority: My Priority

Review of Wonder Egg Priority: My Priority

Spoiler Warning: I don't know how I feel about that ending, it's open-ended and sets up the series for a potential sequel, but if that's the end of Wonder Egg Priority, I'm disappointed. I admit, the plot itself started to make sense, especially with that cliffhanger of the parallel world and how it relates to reviving the dead characters. Although it felt like everything that happened from the episodes didn't mean a thing in this scenario. The special itself adds another event that gives Ai even more character development, but towards the end it occurs, while the rest of the characters seems to have been thrown aside, making Ai the only one who's going to have an impact on the plot, but I wanted to see the other girls join Ai as well.

The story itself has gotten confusing at this point, since the beginning, it was clear that Ai and the other girls had a goal in mind, while the climax of the twelve episodes sets up another part for the story to go, but the special didn't move forward with it one bit. The only source of that happening is a potential character removal from the series, and that's all it took for Ai to continue expanding her goal, but then ends the special right there. If the first half isn't a recap, they could've done more of the special instead of leaving it with too many plot holes.

While the main girls themselves are still as likable as always, the special made me feel like they're no longer going to stay friends and left under odd terms. The characters they wanted to save portrayed the other world very well, and it makes sense that it would be impossible to bring someone back to life, and I liked that it brings up the concept of the parallel world. The one thing that still confused me was Neiru's sudden disappearance, I can't tell if she just disappeared without a trace, so they killed her off. I'm guessing the latter is the case, but I wish it explained more about what happened to her, hopefully, we'll find out more if they decide to continue this series.

The animation and music itself are still the same as ever because nothing too exciting went on, the animation itself was simple, showing the real-life experience occurring in the real world. I like that little nod to the ending song during the second half of the special, that was pretty cute hearing Ai trying to sing the lyrics to it.

Overall, this special didn't give the conclusion I was hoping for, and the story's pacing could've been better if there wasn't a recap episode for the twelve episodes as a result. If they explained more about what exactly is the parallel world, if Neiru did get killed off, and even what is Frill's main intentions, then it would've been satisfying. Instead, it revealed more about the characters the main four girls revived, how they relate to the parallel world, and setting up the series for a potential sequel. If they end Wonder Egg Priority like that, then what were the previous episodes for? If that's the case, then everything just went down the drain. I'm hoping that Wonder Egg Priority will have another season ready and wrap up everything properly because this special just ruined the series.
