When I was a kid in the 1980's if you got up at 4 am on Saturday, they would have bits of anime on TV. Things like Robotech, Zillion, and others with a more mature theme. I remember them showing only a couple of episodes of "Armoured Troopers Voltom" and then it just disappeared! As a kid this drove me nuts as I actually liked it way more then the other shows like Robotech. Now as a adult watching it I can see why it was cancelled at the time. 1) Nudity in the first 5 mins of the first episode. Check! 2) More violencethen a Rambo movie. Check!

I like this anime as it IMHO set a different tone for a Mech Anime at the time. Where as most mech Anime's were (And still ar ) Teenager finds OP mech, and slowly learns how to fight and become stronger.Where as in this show the main character is already a "Expert fighter". He's just as dangerous inside a mech as he is outside. He is the OP weapon and the mech is simply a tool. When I was a kid I remember actually thinking "This is how crappy it would be to be in a space military" .
