The R.O.D franchise is an interesting case study. The light novels and primary manga follow a high school teacher named Yomiko Readman and her student Nenene Sumiregawa. This spinoff manga follows three sisters named Michelle, Maggie, and Anita. The OVA follows Yomiko, and the TV anime sequel follows...Michelle, Maggie, and Anita as they move in with a now adult Nenene while Yomiko haunts the narrative. What I mean to say is this is a difficult franchise to make sense of because of how they play fast and loose with the characters and canon, made worse by the fact the light novels have never been translated intoEnglish.

All that being said, how does Read or Dream actually hold up?

It's fine. It's just cute, episodic supernatural shenanigans. It has some good emotional moments, but if it weren't for the superior anime adaptation it wouldn't be anything to write home about. I would definitely recommend this to a fan of the anime, and maybe to a fan of the original R.O.D manga or LNs, but as a standalone it's really not much. Like the other R.O.D entries it can give you your yuri fix if that's what you're interested in.

I'll give this a 7/10 because I like this franchise and I like the characters (I hope the LNs come to the west one day) but it's really not much.
