Monotone Blue · review
I’m not surprised this comes from the same author as "Smell" and "Eat". Nagabe is a master at writing deep, meaningful relationships. Even though Monotone Blue is only 11 chapters long and the connection between the characters develops quickly, it never feels rushed. Instead, you can genuinely feel the bond forming between them. Hachi is a good character; you can sense his emotional detachment from the world, the story really shines in Aoi, though his backstory is really relatable, being subtle enough that it gets the message across, that being themes of discrimination, while being open enough that any viewer who has had that type ofstruggle can choose their own interpretation, whether be homophobia, racism, or transphobia.
Simply beautiful, one of my favorite mangas of all time.
