Review of Neon Genesis Evangelion
My high score is largely owed to knowing the impact the show has made and my personal experiences with it. This show is not perfect. A lot of things are poorly explained, not explained at all, or exist solely to be cool and edgy (looking at you, crucifix explosions). But it has a grand sense of scale and accurately examines from several angles the grip of depression on the mind while starting out as a rather simple "kids get in robots and fight monsters" show. That being said, this show is a journey, and it's held up well over the years. The way the tension andscale creep up gives that splendid dread that comes with knowing that the worst is yet to come. There's not much I can say that hasn't already been said, but this show is awesome and definitely a must-see for anyone willing to give cartoons a chance as a medium where a serious story can be told.
My only issues are with the fact that the series was clearly unfinished due to mismanagement, which seriously hampers the ending, although this is more than remedied by the End of Evangelion.
