Review of OreImo Specials

Do not read this review unless you've watched and completed the anime 'Ore no Imouto ga Konnani Kawaii Wake ga Nai'. Otherwise it will be usless to you. This "special" is actually the true arc that follows the Light Novel's original story, unlike the filler ending in episode 12 of the OreImo anime. It's comprised of 4 episodes so you could consider this as an extension of the first season. To be completely honest, it was a bit unsatisfying. I know that this arc stays true to the Novel but I was hoping for some development between Manami and Kyousuke. Saori is not given enoughtime yet again, so she's still in the "shallow character" zone and guess what - more martyrdom for Kyousuke. The only characters that were actually given a significant portion of the time were Kuroneko and a newcomer - Sena.

Manami - a supporting character and clearly in the same boat as Sena priority wise, gets shafted and literally only makes 5-6 appearances throughout this arc. Why have the makers done something like this I have no idea but it definitely made this series inconsistent.

On the other hand we see plenty of development between Kuroneko and Kyousuke, we see that their relationship is starting to grow and change. I'd go as far as to say that it's slowly developing into a romance but I did get that impression a lot earlier while watching the first season of OreImo. There was always a subtle romantic atmosphere surrounding those two.

Kirino is absent for most of this arc (she left for america unlike in the filler ending where she decided to stay) so nothing to write on her; she does come back in episode 15 though. Nothing too dramatic. This arc doesn't really bring that much in terms of the story, even though a considerable amount of times passes in it; half a year if my memory serves me correctly. Basicaly it was just a way for the makers to get back on track, after the filler ending fiasco.

I will be looking forward to the 2nd season.
