Review of High School of the Dead
I’ve been in love with “RESIDENT EVIL FRANCHISE” for the longest time. It sparked my fascination with action-zombie type of stories. I never believed that I would be smitten by another one. Combine action packed story with gruesome zombies and you will get an unforgettable viewing experience. There’s a long review coming! ABOUT THE STORY I just love zombie-type of stories and not because of their gruesomeness but because of the magnificent story that comes with it. At the start of the story, you would think that it’s just one of those typical high school dramas but the moment when the creepy looking guy appeared at the schoolgate you know it’s going to be one nasty fight for survival. The series was packed with almost all genres an anime can offer. There were little bit of comic reliefs, few romantic scenes, horror that the zombies brings and the gruesomeness that comes with killing them, the excruciating pain of killing one comrade, even the ecchi-ness of the sexy ladies, psychological stability of the characters, and of course, tons of cool action scenes. Even with a heavy drama it was really amazing how the series managed to give as much as comic relief in every episode and it’s all thanks to the girls whose always busy showing their erotic bodies. What I really loved about fighting zombies is that exciting feeling that comes with it. The most primitive instinct of every living thing since ancient times, “TO SURVIVE”. There’s nothing more exciting when the characters struggled to survive despite all the odds, despite having little hope, despite of not even knowing what tomorrow brings. And to add to the greatness of the story, the main characters were just students. Without any fictional powers or artificial capabilities, they fought side by side and shared the knowledge of every each of them to survive. Of course, let’s not forget what always comes with survival stories which is the psychological stability of characters. Watching their loved ones died and turned into “THEM” and killing them with their own hands will always make someone insane. There was even the crazy teacher who started making cult-like group within the survivors. The madness of some people who instead of helping each other was busy butchering anyone who showed up. The main characters who clanged with the little bit of hope they can have as so to maintain their sanity. Ahh! There’s nothing more interesting than that.
ABOUT THE CHARACTERS
The characters were so amazing it’s almost like a sin how they managed to survive magnificently. They were so damn cool in a crazy way in every fight scenes. They had to stay together so that they can remember what’s left of their humanity. Let’s not forget the almost hilarious way of the girls to show their sexiness and how funny the boys controlled themselves.
ABOUT THE ANIMATION
The animation was not only one of the best but I believe the best. Every fight scenes was like the ones on those Hollywood movies. There were even matrix-like stunts by the characters. Before I knew it, I was already drooling with the excitement from every episode. Even the opening theme was like a trailer from a movie with million dollar budget. This is how an anime levels up after so many years. I wouldn’t be exaggerating if I say that this is “THE NEW GENERATION OF ANIME”.
The series used captivating musical backgrounds as so to match with the intensifying fight scenes and the results was undeniably one hell of a great anime experience. They even gathered some of the most famous and most skilled seiyu of Japan so expect how you’ll end up being amazed with every character.
I will apologize if everything that I say is nothing but good things about the series, even I think I am overreacting but it just shows how fascinating this anime is. A high school drama like you’ve never seen before. Every episode was worth watching and will give you a chill into your spine. Be ready to be dumbfounded with cool guns, amazing sword fighting skills, even bouncing boobies, people getting crazy, deserted streets, abandoned houses, and of course, creepy and nasty zombies. Find out why everybody is smitten by this one hell of an anime series.
