Had been wanting to read this for ages when I saw some of the covers of Kintaro in various jobs and get ups and recently found out mangaplanet did official scans awhile ago and had to immediately hop in. Incredibly heartfelt and moving slice of life story about staying true to ones self and inner desires and how that can contrast with what's important for society to function. Individualism and Collectivism merged. Kintaro is such a fun goof to follow with his barbaric approach to white collar work coming from a background as a Bike Gang leader. Watching Kintaro become less and less of abrawler and more business savvy intellectual whilst avoiding becoming a cog like his coworkers made for an engaging read. I will say my opinion of the series is harmed by 2 arcs focused on Kintaros love life are really really lame in general the series just sucks at writing women which is kinda funny because it features on of the most progressive for the time portrayals of a transwoman Ive seen from a 90s manga.Kintaro being a cheater is interesting what isnt it is kinda just getting glossed over because the women minus tooru all have the characterization of cardboard. That said arcs like the middle eastern cellphone tower arc or kentaro dealing with his daughters evil boyfriend are sooo good and rich in human drama and soap opera intrigue.I think the art has a more laid back understated key to it but its very cinematic at times capturing a good flow of motion in more quiet scenes and becoming very bombastic when the need arises.
Id recomment the series to anybody its like if someone with a soul made dilbert!
