Welcome Back, Alice · review
An extremely interesting view into a mangaka's perspective on gender. The focus of the manga is on a trio of teens who each experience fascinating perspectives on love and gender as they develop. I have never seen a mangaka do what is done here - make an attempt at addressing a male character who experiences a different perspective on their sexuality when confronted with a friend who does not conform to common gender stereotypes, and the struggles this can cause both within themselves and within their relationships, friendly and not. There are very interesting perspectives - portrayed through the protagonist - on how it actually feels tohave sex as a man, the sexuality of maleness, and how it feels to be male. It is not a clean cut dominance of a woman, but a messy, confusing experience that can leave some feeling disgusted.
If you have ever experienced any sort of confusion about your sexuality or gender as a man, particularly in your teen years, I cannot recommend this enough.
