Cat Companions Maruru and Hachi · review
Woah, a whole lot heavier than I would have expected. Yes, plenty of cuteness with a grumpy seasoned stray cat taking in an oblivious freshly lost domesticated cat. But you also get a peek into things like how older cats aren't adopted as often, the constant struggles for food outside, how dangerous being stuck without help can be, and so on. No cat deaths as of the first volume and I don't think the series will really take that turn, but still there's the phantom of it around every corner. That isn't to say there isn't also a lot of silliness given that Maruru isso far out of his depths yet still tries to come at everything so hard. Even the serious moments, such as when tough Hachi is looking for help, is illustrated with so much charm and great expressions.
