This short spin off story was much better than the Sasuke spin off that finished recently. MIrai is an interesting character with a lot of identity issues and issues stemming from spoilers for the main series. It was nice to see her be a focus of the story and also revisit Kakashi and Gai along with other familiar faces. I liked that Asuma was an undercurrent throughout the story and how that resolved by the end. I also liked that the story had a sense of humor about itself which also made Mirai feel more fleshed out. I wouldn't be opposed to seeing another shortfeaturing her in the future where we can explore how she's grown and changed since this story.

Even though this review reads "preliminary" there are only 15 chapters so I completed the series before writing the review.
