I haven't read the manga and will judge this anime on it's own merit. I'm going over some points that I think are important for me. 1. Music: I feel the music was pretty good but they overused in particular two songs, one I think is an original and then one piece by Chopin, this probably become annoying when you binge-watch it as I did. 2. Visuals: Visuals were okay, some bakground shots were very annoyingly animated, it's one of those almost auto-generated idle-human very animated memes. Not very pleasant but overall I feel it was pretty okay. 3. Story: Interesting and altough it's not deep philosophy it's interesting. There are other series that handle this in a more meaningful way I think, like Monster. But it's pretty damn entertaining with a good climax.

4. Characters: This is were this shines through, even though there are some disposable bi-characters that are a little odd the main character and Migi (his parasite) are very well written. This non-emotion relation is very interesting for me and this anime really knew how to play on that strenght. I feel the "main" female character could have more development however.

5. Conclution: Good anime, entertaining and bring some concepts that makes you think. A little overfocus on the envoirment which felt a little odd, beacuse this anime isn't at all about the envoirment except in two places were it's extremely "central" to the story. However I recommend this anime, especially with the over-saturated waifu shit that's out there.
