Review of Astra Lost in Space
Based on the title and plot, this is obviously a homage to the American television series "Lost in Space." As a fan who watched reruns of the classic show on television, I have to say this series was satisfactory in that regard. [note: I also loved the largely panned 1998 movie Lost in Space, so my taste may be suspect.] A lot of the top reviews are very mixed, so I went in prepared to drop it after a few episodes. However, I found it fun and adventurous. Sure there are flaws, but enjoyment is top priority as far as I am concerned. The first halfreminded me much of the video game "No Man's Sky" of which I've spent a decent amount of hours in. The planetary explorations were colorful and fun to watch.
The plot twists were great and resolved all of the questions I had in the beginning. The characters were all unique and fit into the puzzle that resolves itself by the end of the series. [that reminds me of another video game Zanki Zero: Last Beginning]
Yes, there is a dumb girl who's only purpose is to provide unity to the group. That's a feature of a lot of anime, I don't know why anyone would call that a flaw. Character archetypes are a thing, and if I read a review that cites that as a reason it's a bad anime, I tend to overlook it.
Also, you will note that all of the characters are exceptional or a prodigy of some sort. Very good reason for that which is revealed in one of the major plot twists, so I won't spoil. Also, having a group of gifted teens doing crazy things is kinda normal for anime. Why question it?
If you want to sit back and watch a fun adventure with a focus on developing teamwork and overcoming personal flaws.... you should watch this.
