Chainsaw man is a breath of fresh air for the genre, and Denji is the main reason for it. When other shounen usually have a righteous MC with sad backstory, and also an ambition to fight for justice, Denji is different. He is just a broke, starving teenager that dreams of having a bread to eat everyday and getting to touch a woman's chest. He isn't a saint, but he isn't evil either. Throughout the story he has shown that he greatly cares about people close to him, but he lacks a sense of justice that extends beyond that, that usually present in most popular shounenMC. To me, thats how a teenager should be, especially under a hopeless circumstance where he almost starve everyday, and forced to do violent work everyday to pay off his debts.

Outside of the characters, the dialogues in this anime is also a strong point. There has never been a moment where I feel like I want to skip the part when the characters are talking to each other, that is something that often happen in other shounens for me. Sometimes there would be a moment where a character would lecture other character, and the other character would just nod, or respond with useless shit like "you're not making any sense!". That doesn't happen in Chainsaw man. The dialogues are always interesting to hear, no essays, and sometimes characters like Makima would say some metaphorical lines that would make you think.

There was someone on the internet that said: "Fujimoto is the Tarantino of manga writers", I think it perfectly describe the show, I can see some similarities in Chainsawman as with Tarantino's movies.

Dialogues and characters are what make this anime very special, the premise isn't particularly original: its just a world full of monster and a hero that is destined to defeat them all. It has been done countless of times before. But characters like Denji and Makima are rare to find in the genre.
