Review of Dan Da Dan

I would have rated this higher. The animation is astounding, the story is great, the premise is funny and interesting, its a shoujo shonnen and the characters are endearing. But the sexual assault. And how it treats it. I can't. It's so gross, so in your face, and it happens almost every episode. Given, its not just momo that suffers from it, but 1. that shouldn't be plus, and 2. momo still suffers from most of it. At some points you can excuse it anymore. Because even if its "tearing down the comedy gag of the SA troupe in anime" its still not treating it with the seriousnessit deserves. Fuck. Momo is almost abused and is touched and assaulted almost every episode yet every time she's saved its "oh, well ok, moving on-". No Okarun asking if she's ok. No scenes showing how it could be affecting her. No grandma talking to her about it. Nothing.

And might I say, the aliens are not better than the kinto family. If I'm pinned down naked and about to be raped, I don't care if you're doing it for science, or survival of the species, or for your own personal gratification. You're still a monster committing a selfish crime and I wish you the worst life has to offer.

These are teenagers. Momo is a teenager. And she's constantly on the verge of being assaulted/abused on this series. I will watch season 2, but will skip every scene like that as it is not threaded as seriously as it should and is just used as a tool for...shock value? Horniness? Weirdness? I don't fucking know.
