It felt forced but when I put a little more thought about the last epizode I ended up pretty happy. We have to remember that its not another highschool love story. Mc realised that his feelings to Shinako were nothing more than puppy love from his university years. Why he suddenly returned to Haru? He called himself a selfish bastard that craves the attention of a cute girl who is nice to him. Dont blame the story. Blame the character who you dont like. Tbh as I am almost the same age as mc I would call this outcome as pretty realistic.
