Review of Vermeil in Gold
So, I gave this show a 7, because I felt like it deserved more than a 6, but I think a 7 is all this show deserves. It's far from being bad. I liked the character design, the animation and the story as well, although it's far from being unique. We're just talking about a boy who manages to summon a female demon as his familiar, before having to fight against the bad guys of the story, nothing new here, but still enjoyable. I didn't feel like the characters were shallow but they were pretty classic so nothing special to say here. It doesn't make the show looseany points but doesn't help gaining some either...
The thing that made it loose point was the fan service, I'm getting sick of that need that every studio/author feels to attract the viewer/reader by showing some b**bies and b**ties, because it is starting to act more and more like a repellant...
It could be used once or twice in the show to add some fun, but I feel like they are doing that every time they lack some inspiration, which seems to happen way too much. (This goes not only for Kinsou no Vermeil but for most of the shows I've seen lately)
And, in order to stay in this world, this female demon needs her master to give her his mana once in a while, but in order to do that she needs to kiss him, naked if possible... I mean... come on dude! Was it really necessary to make them kiss so much just to exchange some mana?
Again, all this fan service just repels me, I know I would have enjoyed the show a lot more if it wasn't for that.
Another thing that I didn't like much was the protagonist. I don't really know how to explain it but he didn't inspire any sympathy from me, it feels like anyone can do whatever they want with him as he never dares to complain. I mean, when its about life or death he stands a bit more for himself but otherwise he just lets everything happen.
The main reason why I liked this show was Vermeil, I like her character and I kept watching just to know what would happen to her next and what she would do. If a second season is adapted, which I hope, I will definitely watch it, just for her.
Although it may look like I disliked a lot of things in this show, I'll say again that it was pretty enjoyable. If I give a show a 7, it means that I think it deserves to be watched. I just wanted to write down what I found to be the most hateful things about this show to let you know what to expect from it.
If you like the first episode, you should watch till the end. I didn't feel like it was going downhill from any point in the show, there may just have been 1 or 2 episodes which didn't make me feel the same "hype" as the others but that's it.
