Review of Blue Period

Ok i'm not a self proclaimed artist as many others in the review section have already stated to be. This review is from an amateur artist who gave up on art and doesn't have time to make a sketch ecmven as a hobby. Maybe i'm a lazy maybe something personal happened to me, who knows. Lets get right into it. Story:: Yeah, the story will go as expected. Jock who's good in 'hardwork' looks down on art but is suddenly captivated by it and then rest is the story. The sheer suddenness of him just jumping boats completely threw me off. There also wasn't as muchresistance from his family, friends etc when he did that. Which I'll say is totally unrealistic. Being a south-east Asian art is regarded as "time-pass", a hobby which you have to give up by middle school? I guess, its 7th standard or 14 yrs of age.
However the joy of sketching is quite eminent as the story progresses. Also the pressure the MC felt was very nicely portrayed as be it in any field everyone has felt that drowning sensation.
I'd have liked a few twists and turns but it was very simple story and too good of an ending if i may say. I mean come on 0 5% acceptance rate and you snag it in 1 chance just by 1.5 yrs of training and he's not "talented " THIS HAS PLOT ARMOUR written all over it.
For such a simple story the dialogues were surprisingly difficult to follow. More than once i had to rewind it.
Also the cross-dressing guy's story was very good however it lacked execution. We also don't know what happened to him.
Mori-senpai and MC had a relationship which i have no idea what it is but it too was not shown well.
All in all its a good story to get you motivated... even if its too much up in the clouds kinda story.

Art:: yeah there ain't any orgasmic, makoto shinkai frames in this series which is surprising as its an art anime. However the few arts which were said to be good i could see behind the reasoning why. Like i liked the " BONDS" art piece. I also liked the sketch he gave to his mother and the final exam art piece, both the "DUALITY " & " NUDE" . Still art is upto interpretation so it'll vary from person to person.

Sound:: was good . As you felt the suffocating sensation at times along with the exhilaration of finishing a good art. Other than that nothing much.

Character:: MC is just self insert. Everyone has faced the consequences of being a people pleaser, trying to live a monotonous life and is waiting for the next best thing to happen to them. But even if personality lacked it made up in the reactions to the various situations presented. No other character of note was there except Ryuji whose character arc wasn't shown. Parents felt more like Parents in this anime for sometime and then they returned to the old troupe of anime style.

You'll enjoy this if you like a show that is nuanced and full of metaphors. If you have gone through any entrance exam you can also relate to it.

I recommend it as one time watch show. You'll watch it for sure but you wont come back to it.
