Despite remaining above its field, the lacking aspects of Solo Leveling seem to stack up as the second season comes to an end. By now the plot has developed in such a way that it feels tragic to zoom out Jin-Woo to seemingly only enhance his own relevance. Without having dug into the source material itself, this paragraph may be wishful thinking and is heavily skewed by personal preferences. Season 2 offers a glimpse of power dynamics and politics that could be explored in a very enticing way - similar to what Mecha shows often offer. With character development in the usual sense not being acenterpiece of Solo Leveling, finding use for such plot mechanisms could provide refreshing contrast to the combat sequences.

Notably genre-specific strengths have leveled up and production managed to hit higher peaks in comparison to the initial season. With the way these reviews weigh world building and production however, the final result takes a hit as what is beautifully put into display still misses out on going beyond its shine.
