Review of Bakemonogatari
This is an excellent anime. A great fusion of reality and the supernatural with interesting characters and dialogue. The music and dialogue are fascinating and the characters wonderfully unique. This goes for every season, though it becomes more pronounced in later seasons, but the level of perverted-ness is very high. Being a fan of that myself I mostly enjoy it, but even for me, sometimes I'm surprised at the levels it can drop too (the protagonist hitting on an elementary school spirit being but one example). That contrast with the highly intellectual dialogue and unique art style makes this series both bewitching, surreal and browfurrowing. How can something such fantastic ideas about life also be so crude, how can a main protagonist who is clever and largely likeable, also have a range of rather disturbing fetishes? It's kinda paradoxical.
Personally I love it, yet I'd feel very uncomfortable showing it to friends or family because of the aforementioned scenes. So I guess it'll remain a guilty pleasure of mine.
