Review of Anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day
It is at times difficult to forget the blissful memories of the past when the present seems so distorted. AnoHana is about theses feelings which revolve around several friends as they face the past. Story 8/10 AnoHana is a captivating story of several distant friends which slowly start to grow close again when Menma, a small girl as well as their friend, appears. She can only be seen by Jintan, one of her friends, as he embarks on trying to fulfill his friend’s wish she had made so many years ago. Conflict arises between the friends as they start to doubt the existence of Menma’s spirit andlater their true feelings are exposed.
A truly heart warming story about five friends who try to fulfill the wish of their close friend, Menma.
Art 9/10
AnoHana has an appealing art style, with beautiful colours and scenery. If the story does not appeal to you the art may, for each character has a style unique to him or her. The scenery gave this anime a slightly different edge which just made it worth the watch even more.
Sound 8/10
The music matched AnoHana’s theme perfectly and you may easily find yourself listening the opening and closing song repeatedly. It caused many emotions to arise within myself and I constantly found myself pondering about the past while listening to the music within this anime.
Character 9/10
Each character within AnoHana has a different personality with different feelings and thoughts. Each character was developed well throughout the anime and the theme of the whole anime is portrayed through each one. You may find yourself understanding their feelings greatly. I found the characters relatable and enjoyed the slight humour which they gave the anime.
Enjoyment 9/10
I enjoyed this anime greatly, because it contained a great amount of emotion with an excellent theme. It will have points where you will find yourself weeping, but at the end of this anime warm feelings did arise.
AnoHana had a beautiful story with relatable characters and a strong plot. Many emotions were awoken while I watched this anime and I’ll probably find myself watching it again someday soon.
