Review of The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya
Suzumiya Haruhi no Shoushitsu review The movie is a sequel to the tv series The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi , and portrays the events that happened from 18 december to 24 december a month after the festival cultural. The story is told in a narrative perspective by our main character Kyon and focuses on his development and interactions across the movie. It’s about a new world created where everybody forgets about Haruhi and the SOS brigade that never existed in the first place, Kyon is the only one who remembers. The movie manages to use the plot from the tv series for the developmentof the story and characterization. It uses every detail to craft the characters emotional state and personalities, also it manages to connect all the events from the tv series with the plot and story in the movie. This is all done at a steady and natural pace for the development of the story and characters. All the details are important and the movie manages to use them at its finest to create a stunning and captivating atmosphere for the viewer that makes him think he is part of the story.
The movie portrays the human drama with the help of our main character Kyon , who is faced to a dire situation and the struggle to overcome it. It also portrays how weak and selfish we humans are and need somebody to rely on it. Kyon is facing his own identity as a individual in that world and the past memories that he had in the previous world are his only bond and reason to move on. His characterization is amazingly done in the movie , we are shown his emotional state at a natural pace and the interaction with other characters.
The movie puts in discussion the human nature aspects like emotions, love, choices with the help of our character Yuki Nagato. This is a allegory to our real world where we are faced to a change ,and the decisions we make influence our life and the world around us.Yes the movie puts in the spotlight the questionable “choices” we make through the characters actions and interactions to be more precise with the help of Kyon.He is faced to make a decision about his future and life from now on.
It’s another message sent by the anime for the viewers about how precious and important is a single decision we make in our life for our future.Be it a job, a person , or a place a decision will influence us for the rest of our life and our surroundings .
Because the characterization is well done , the characters are realistic and the movie portrays their emotional state in a natural way according to the situation they are faced. Yuki a character which in the tv series had no emotional state , the movie shows her emotional development , she acts like a normal high school girl( cries when she is sad , falls in love, smiles when she is happy ) all in a natural manner and not forced at all. We are presented Kyon’s emotional development , his sufferings and fear of loneliness in the new world. He seeks his bond with his identity through the desperate search of the members of the Sos brigade. That is his identity, his bond with his own world , a place we all call home , a place we belong. He is also faced to make a choice, a transition between his previous world and the new one . With the help of the choice he discovers more about his true self, about the place where he belongs.
In conclusion the movie delivers his message about choices we make across our long road called life, about the place we belong and call it home, about bonds that represent our identity as a person and finally about memories be it with friends , family or lover that are irreplaceable and essential for us humans to move on.
Overall 8/10
