Review of Akira
As one of the first anime to really make it big in the West, particularly in the USA, Akira is kind of a big deal. Story - Akira can be kind of confusing in a mindscrew sort of way at times, but it's still very good. Art - this is probably where Akira doesn't hold up as well. Animation and character designs have advanced or at least changed a lot since then and this is probably the movie's weakest point. Not to say that the animation or art is poorly done at all, it's just that the character designs don't hold up as well asthe rest of the film.
Sound - holy shit that soundtrack. It's very distinctive and does an excellent job of setting up the atmosphere of the movie.
Character - I was torn between giving this a 7 or an 8. On one hand, a lot of the characters don't really get developed at all. On the other, the main characters are all very well developed with strong personalities.
Enjoyment - It's a very enjoyable film if a bit disturbing at times.
