Review of High School DxD

If you are able to look past all the fan service, the story of this anime is actually pretty damn good! Although calling this fan service is an understatement. Everybody is either full nude or show a nipple like half the time. This anime is full of majestic, in-your-face "plot", where one could call it borderline porn. Although lot of times I just couldn't help but laugh over it because it's just so mucu. Even in the 2nd season, I knew there was going to be countless amount of nude scenes and I expected them, but sometimes they still just caught me off guard and mademe laugh (note to self: also a viable drinking game). Most of the times it went kinda like this: "Okay, I bet now her clothes will be shredded and all that remains are panties in some embarrassing pose... Goddamn it, not even panties and an even more embarrassing pose, LMAO!"

The characters are very weak, but the story makes up for everything. This anime made me laugh and it almost managed to make me even cry. There are some really touching moments. This anime probably would have a better reputation without all the boobs.

The main character is a totally pathetic pervert. He becomes demon slave to one of the high-level demons. Turns out he has some god killing weapon sealed in his body. He's wound up in a war between angels, demons, priests and whatnot as he struggles to unlock the potential of his weapon. The jokes they try to make with the pervy main character are... eh, pathetic. There's no other way to say it. BUT it does get a lot better in the 2nd season. The creators learned to this perverseness to make some fun jokes. If you watched this, be sure to watch the 2nd season, it's a lot better in general.

The narrative however doesn't outright highlight demons as evil. Rather, it shows the faults in angels, priests as well as the demons, which is a nice area to explore.
