Review of Dorohedoro
If only it was all in 2D. First the obvious: the 3D animation. It's not awful, and its arguably pretty good, but in fights the 3D models do feel stiff and clunky. There are a couple comedic moments that 3D animation helps a bit with, but arguably its the anime's biggest downfall. HOWEVER: the background art is consistently amazing, and whenever the characters are 2D animated (normally in flashbacks and in some fights) it always looks good. In fairness however, you would need a really good, and and truly committed team if they were to animated the insanity the manga had Sound: its got a pretty funkyOST, its not really consistent but if you're not picky, its a lot of fun, with fun comedic tracks and some sick, gritty guitar. Basically, it reflects the tone of the story and atmosphere really well.
Its super different from anything you've seen before, guaranteed. All characters have a great and distinct personality, and so does the world(s) they inhabit. The first few episodes may feel awkward because of how the anime choses to info dump on you to give you a bit of footing in this completely different world.
Story: given it is only 12 episodes, it still does manage to ask a lot of question and bring it bits of mystery everywhere , unfortunately you won't have a lot of answers, as a lot of them are solved at the end of the manga. But the way it sets up those mysteries are perfect, you can tell its really well thought out.
Enjoyment: look its my favourite manga so I have huge bias in enjoyment, I have rewatched the anime more than any other and every time I notice a little detail that foreshadows events in the manga, but needless to say its not easy to get bored watching.
You may not like the genre, or the gore, or the 3d animation, but if all of those are fine by you, just watch it, you'll at least enjoy the anime for what it is, and if you read the manga afterwards, you're in for a ride
