Review of Land of the Lustrous
Land of the lustrous is unique and you should watch it because it is unique. Story: Its not particularly bland but not very dull. It pretty much reminds me of a more vibrantly colored and less ambitious version of Shinsekai Yori (which is an absolute masterpiece). The dynamic of the characters are interesting and the story is just likeable, or I guess it somehow made a critic who cares so much about a story pay less attention to it? Its not average so it must be above a 5 but it's not good enough for me to call it an 8 so I will settle forjust a GOOD (7/10)
Art: CG animation is not only employed well, but it ENHANCES the art style and ambiance. Every sheen and every RWBY-esque movement patterns matches well with the series. Not a lot to say here but to say its great. At first I thought it was bad, and then I actually watched the show and realized its pretty good. Although it sometimes slips up, its an overall GREAT (8/10)
Sound: Does not really have any standout OSTs, but they do their job. The ending fits, does its job, and the opening theme is good. I don't know what to say but I guess ACTUALLY FITTING is rarer than one may think so its above the average 5. None of it really adds so I reluctantly give a (6/10).
Character: Every character is likeable, even that monk. Their voice actors all nailed their parts, and the voices of some characters that show up later (not saying their names because of spoilers) have incredible voices in particular. I remember each and every gem person and although they have the same figure, they are suprisingly distinct. I love how each of their designs are so similar (literally the same body shape) but their faces and personalities make them SO DIFFERENT and UNIQUE. (9/10).
Enjoyment: I liked the show enough to not study for my test for it. The only reason why its not a higher score is because the ending is somewhat anticlimatic, in a good way though. (8/10)
Overall: If you miss ACTUAL CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT and ACTUALLY SINCERE AND NOT SEXUAL DESIGNS and miss ACTUAL PLOT, then you should watch Houseki no Kuni.
P.S. This series is by far the least appreciated anime of 2017. In my opnion, it beats Made in Abyss and triumphs over all that other shit. You are doing yourself a service watching this show.
