Review of Devilman: Crybaby
Sat on the fence - not knowing which side to jump I’ll start with the simple, the animation. Although it was simple, it conveyed everything that it needed to well. The action sequences were well done. The bizarre scenes were animated...well, bizarrely, it did everything it needed to. I did find the colours however quite boring. Sometimes like it was coloured using Microsoft paint, devoid of shading. Although that will undoubtedly be what they were going for, it was not to my taste for this anime. Now, the rest. Story wise, I liked it, then lost it, then liked it again and when it concluded Ifelt that it could have been told over a greater number of episodes, had better balance and been more engaging.
Character progression is quite basic here too. The characters at the start are pretty much the same up until the last 2 episodes. After that, they progress so far that you become disengaged with them and lose interest.
In summary, it was ok. But not as cohesive as I think it could have been.
