My friend who recommended this anime to me had to remind to me that these characters are in middle school so expect them to start out shy, awkward and even a bit bland. He wasn't wrong. He wasn't wrong. Azumi's character focuses on Dazai (a writer he wants to become), writing, and traditional culture like the church and the dancing while Akane's based on running and that pink star potato that she squishes while anxious. She squishes it a lot. I have to give props to when Azumi gets serious and pushes himself to things outside of writing. The characters felt underultilized except for maybeRoman and Chinatsu. Still a bit weirded out by the Roman and Sensei skits at the end, more of a 'that's not a good sign' instead of a 'aww that's so adorbs'. The skits at the end give the side characters we don't usually see a bit more depth.

Not many laughs but more of a 'hey, that's something middle school relations tend to be like' or when both parties are new to relationships and have no idea what to do, so they were pretty accurate with the 'what do we do?' aspect. This anime is very realistic with dialogue and how life goes for them, so nothing too intense.

This sense of realism is a bit boring but adds to the charm of the overall series.

I will admit that episode 12 was both a bummer and a highlight. Bummer as in, aw man someone give ' ' for trying, highlight as in, wow so that's what happens. The art's easy for the eyes.

Would I recommend this to someone else? I'd have to say yes since the realism in how these people act and art is one of it's best charms.
